I had to double-check to make sure… and it had actually been over two months since our last show! We played November 15^th, 2010, with husband&wife at Sticky Fingerz. Since then, we’ve spent four days in the studio in Dallas, lost a member to rigors of school (Rae Leigh) and written a few new songs!

We played last Sunday, 1-16-11, at the Rev Room, with a bevy of other acts (all of whom are in the Hip Hop genre.) 7 Duce, 607, and Futuro Boots, along with the headlining act (and close friends of ours), EKG.

It was the most well attended show that we’ve played in a while, and we all had a BLAST doing it. Here is our set-list from that night:

As I mentioned, it was our first show with the brand new lineup. This is how the “new Free Micah” is set up:

Jay: Lead Vocals, Piano, Korg, Guitar

Ryker: Backup Vocals, Guitar

James: Backup Vocals, Bass

BenSing: Guitar

BenSeay: Drums

My friend Andrew McClain sent me a couple of thoughts from the show… I liked them so much that I thought I’d share them here with you:

“I think that the show Sunday night immediately went on a short list of shows that I won’t forget anytime soon….

You guys… Damn, you guys. I feel like I got to witness something pretty incredible - a real rebirth or something… It was pure rock n’ roll bachelorism.”

Hey guys, hows it goin'? I really love your music! Im pretty much new to your music but I'm a fan. We played Sticky Fingerz the other night. It was good.

We played with this awesome band called husband&wife. They’re from Bloomingtom, Indiana, and y’all should really check them out. They are super nice guys, and were a blast to play with.

It was Jay’s birthday, and although he was feeling under the weather, a few whiskey drinks made him feel well enough to play our set…

City Bar, Shreveport, 10-29-10

Our first show in Shreveport was, well, not ideal, shall we say?

The drive down there was fine. I discovered that Rae Leigh is a big Blink 182 fan. Did you guys know that? I did NOT know that. We all sang “I’m Feelin’ This” at the top of our lungs. I think we were ready to get out of the van.

When we got into the city, things got a little confusing. I was trying to navigate by yelling directions from the back seat, to Ben (Singleton), in the drivers seat. We were at a stoplight, in a lane that directed us left, back on to the interstate. I yelled, Go straight here! Ben yelled, Okay!

Ben directed the van left, back on to the interstate. I yelled, Wait, what are you doing?! He yelled, Going straight, like you said! I yelled, No, you went left!

We got turned around, and all had a good laugh about it. Just a good old misunderstanding. Those happen. As we soon discovered after pulling up to the venue, City Bar.

I booked this show several weeks ago, with a guy named Cameron Goldsmith. We agreed on a $175 guarantee. Everything was set. They even had our name listed online.

When we get there, the very helpful, kind, courteous bartender – I think his name was Jason – he informed us that Cameron had been ‘nothing but a pain in his you-know-what’ ever since they had been working together. Apparently we had been doubled-booked. Some dude named Daniel Smalley was supposed to be playing at City Bar that night.

After serving us free beers – Abita Andygator, quite good – and making several phone calls, and apologizing a million times, Jason worked it out to where we could open for Daniel Smalley, from 10:30 to 11:30, for 100 bucks. We said, Thank you so much!

They cut us off after 30 minutes, which stinks, because we had been saving the newer, awesome songs for the second half of the set, and we hung around for a while, trying to make the best of the situation.

After gas, we probably made 15 bucks for the show. But hey, that’s how it goes some times.

Maxine's - 10/22/10

Last night was my (Jimmy) first show with the band. It was Ben’s first show too. Man. Man we had a blast. We played Maxine’s in Hot Springs. We got there around 7:30, set up, sound checked, ate some pizza, had some drinks, enjoyed Adam Faucett (it was my first time seeing him, really great stuff), and then it was PAUL SAMMONS. Here is a word of advice: if you have never listened to Paul, hit “Command T” on your Mac (if you have a PC, just stop reading this, and order a Mac immediately), type his name into your Google search bar, and listen to “Woke Up This Mornin.’” Or just click on his name in this post, and it’ll take you straight there :)

He was great. It was his CD release show. The crowd was very warm and receptive. I love the owners – Agnes and Kevin? I think that was his name. Anyway, last night they were sitting in the front middle, at a candlelit table, watching all the bands. How great.

The last four are all relatively new, and will be on the EP! We’re heading to the studio next month, November 19-22, in Dallas, with our friend, Stephen Hudson. Get ready, folks… we’re really excited about this EP.
